Functional Capacity Evaluation

We offer Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) to assess whether an individual is physically ready to return to work after an injury.

Functional Capacity Evaluation

At Atlas Work Rehabilitation, we provide Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) to help determine whether an individual is physically ready to return to work following an injury. An FCE is a standardized, objective assessment that evaluates a worker's ability to safely perform the physical demands of their job. These evaluations are an essential part of the recovery process, offering clarity for patients, medical providers, case managers, and employers. Whether you're nearing the end of your treatment or need documentation to support a return-to-work decision, our FCE process helps ensure that any transition back into the workplace is done safely, confidently, and based on real-world physical performance data. With expert evaluators, a focus on accuracy, and a commitment to patient-centered care, we deliver results that support long-term health, successful job reintegration, and informed planning for the future.

What is an FCE?

An FCE is a standardized series of physical tests that measure strength, endurance, flexibility, and job-specific movements. The results provide clear, objective data for medical providers, employers, case managers, injured workers.

What an FCE Can Determine

A Functional Capacity Evaluation can provide valuable insight into a worker's current physical abilities and limitations following an injury. The results help determine whether the individual is ready to return to full-duty work, needs a modified or transitional job, or would benefit from a more structured return-to-work program. FCE findings also support medical decision-making, inform vocational planning, and serve as objective documentation for case managers, employers, or insurance providers. By clearly identifying what a person can safely do, the FCE helps ensure that any return to the workplace is both appropriate and sustainable.

What We Evaluate:

  • Medical history review
  • Objective physical assessments
  • Postural tolerance (e.g., sitting, standing, squatting, stooping)
  • Ambulatory movements (e.g., walking, stair climbing, ladder use)
  • Job-specific tasks (e.g., lifting, reaching, carrying)

FCEs at Atlas Work Rehabilitation are conducted by Erza Sauter, Occupational Therapist, with additional evaluations performed by Dr. Titonath Dith, an accredited FCE evaluator. Our team brings clinical expertise and a patient-first approach to every evaluation.
